The Pad Project

We’re excited to announce the launch of The Pad Project to help girls stay in school. This project is the brainchild of our Director, Naomi Mungo Kovas. Naomi heard again and again from teachers that lack of access to sanitary pads is a big reason that girls miss school, which leads to higher dropout rates. That’s when Naomi had the idea of partnering with a talented local textile designer and tailor, Sesito Jere, to create re-useable, washable pads that could be provided to girls in need. Using microfiber and soft fleece with local chitenge cloth, we were able to fashion a durable, comfortable, and washable pad. Over three hundred of them have been produced so far. This simple solution means that a girl can stay in school and thrive. Want to donate to The Pad Project? Just $16 is enough to supply one girl with the sanitary pads she needs to stay in school!
