Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere

As we gear up for our second volunteer trip to Zambia, I am excited and nervous. Being in this beautiful place where my daughter spent much of the last year of her life is such a gift, and neverthless a daunting experience. I want to make her proud and I also want to avoid being a constant puddle of tears. This June we have such a full schedule of work, meetings, and school visits that I might actually be too busy for crying. We’ll see. We’re excited to work with the kids at Maher to paint some murals on their new classroom walls and to touch up the outside murals we worked on last year. Painting, especially on such a large canvas like a wall, is not something the kids ordinarily get to do, so we are going to make sure as many of them as possible get a chance at the paint brush! This year we will also be visiting scores of schools both in Livingstone and in the surrounding villages to learn more about this new world Zoe has led us to and we hope to identify other schools that we can help with supplies, desks, and maybe even classroom additions in the future.
